Nail Surgery

The principle of nail surgery is to permanently remove the ingrown nail that is causing the pain and issue.

Types of Nail Surgery:

  • Partial Nail Avulsion: Involves permanently removing a side of the ingrowing/involuted nail.

  • Total Nail Avulsion: Involves removing the entire nail causing the issue.

The partial nail avulsion procedure involves:

  • Administration of local anesthetic to numb the toe.

  • Application of tourniquet around toe to prevent bleeding.

  • Once the toe is numb, the nail can be removed with sterilised tools and equipment.

  • Application of Phenol to the region from there the nail grew to prevent from growing back.

  • Application of dressing to the toe to help keep the wound clean and reduce risk of infection.

  • Follow up appointment to monitor healing and redressing.
