Foot Wound Care
Foot ulcer/wound is an open lesion/sore within the skin. It can be caused by a variety of factors and if left untreated can causes serious health concerns.
Most common causes:

Complication of uncontrolled diabetes, (neuropathy, vascular disease)

Cellulitis

Neuropathy
-
Trauma to the foot or toe

Poor blood circulation

Peripheral vascular disease
-
Deformed toes
-
Friction and/or High pressure areas
If left untreated it may cause:

Infection
-
Amputation
-
Sepsis
-
Hospitalisation
What we do to manage and treat your foot ulcer:

Perform vascular assessments with a ultrasound doppler and/or toe pressure.

Perform a neurological test to assess the protective sensation of the feet.

Perform in depth wound assessment.
-
Irrigate and cleanse the wound and surrounding skin.
-
Debride any non-viable tissue and ensure reduction in bacterial load.
-
Administer medicated dressings through aseptic technique.
-
Assess and provide offloading modalities if required.
-
Provide foot ulcer education and advice.
-
Provide a full report to your GP.

Book your next review for re-dressing and on going care and monitoring.
